New Rod Blank Released!

Here is Jesse Sampson of Small Stream Outfitters with our new St 1002-2(IM). You can see the bend up to the handle. Notice he doesn’t grab above the cork. We made it for steelhead, but Jesse is an overachiever. KING ME!

Coastal Field Testing #1

Jesse Zalonis has been staining the handles of our St 960, 961 and 962s red. Looks like he’s been pretty successful.

Irony…

So I saw this at a stop light the other day. He must not have been able to find a Geo or a Sprint, which are at least labeled American cars (but built in Japan, Hungary, China, India, Indonesia or Malaysia).

Another Build

Just thought we’d point out Raymond’s work here.

Quick Update – Thank you!

Wow, what an incredible show. Gary’s talk was standing room only and at one point, Gary was surrounded three deep in front of our booth with folks hanging on his every word. We were overwhelmed by the support. I asked Gary his thoughts about the show and what he wanted to share with you all [...]

Remembering Pearl Harbor

It’s not a holiday, so many folks don’t remember, but today is the anniversary of the “date which will live in infamy.”

Neglect Neglect!

So we’ve neglected our posting over the holidays, but it’s not because of a turkey hangover.  It’s because we’ve been so busy.  Just a few of the things we’ve been focused on lately: production is increasing its capacity and cranking out blanks at a good clip; our marketing department (meaning Jason and I) is shooting [...]

MOI (Moment of Inertia) Calculator

Just a little adjunct to Jon’s quick post below. For all of you who love to tinker (that’s everyone, right?), here’s some more fun… From Sexyloops: http://www.sexyloops.com/eric/moi.php

Latest Catch

http://www.latestcatch.com/?q=node/229 This article pretty much sums up why comparing raw blank weights is not much help.

A Word About Breakage

Every rod should break. Sound surprising coming from a blank manufacturer? Don’t be surprised, it’s just the reality of designing for high-performance. For example, if you “high-stick” (no, not the fly-fishing technique) a high-performance rod, you may be encouraging a break. The design features that make high-performance what it is are often at odds with the [...]

Down Under

Just wanted to note that we received a comment from a renowned Australian Rod Maker. We’re thrilled that folks recognize just how big a risk it is for us to release objective measurements for our blanks. http://northforkcomposites.com/blog/2009/10/10/ccs-page-updates-and-etc/#comments

Speaking the Same Langauge

There is definitely a “special language” of the fishing-rod world, especially among manufacturers and builders. While manufacturing has its some of its own lingo, there is a fairly broad spread of terms that apply across the board. At North Fork, we like to be able to communicate effectively with our customers and others in the [...]
