A Thanks to Custom Rod Makers

I’ve always known that Gary believes that custom rod makers are responsible for most of the new developments in rod making. One day I asked him what developments he was talking about.  He paused, and then said: “Probably everything! Split-grips, rod balancing, how to spine, enclosed handles, reel seats, the graphite trigger, Robert’s wrap…”

Just thought you all might want to know how highly Gary thinks of you.

Derec—You’re welcome. Realize that blank in the pic is not at “production quality” finish (it was sanded enough to do a down-and-dirty CCS and make a few casts, that’s all). But, the color you were asking about on the Rodbuilder forum is pretty accurate.

Exactly how much sanding do you guys do on a blank? I’d buy blanks that look like the one in the photo (only lightly sanded) if it meant slightly improved performance from not having the carbon fiber sanded through.
